HELPFUL HINTS:
*Create a place to put items aside for later reconsideration.
Do not put them back in their regular spot! Make a date with yourself to review the “maybes” in one, two or three months.
*Place safety pins or removable stickers on all items you are unsure you should keep. Next time you clear your clutter, you can quickly identify the items you don’t use.**
*If you have something that needs to be repaired or altered, get it done. If you cannot do it yourself, find a repair service or a good tailor. Turn something you cannot use into something you love.
*Visualize how clearing your space will feel. Set a goal. But be gentle on yourself. You may not complete a category in one day. Don’t worry; you may have to break an area down into several smaller steps. Use seasonal differences, colour and age of items as possible ideas on how to break a big task into smaller steps. Keep your vision! You’ll be glad you did.
*You may need more information. There are several websites and books on storage and organizing your home. Or, you may wish to ask a friend or hire a professional organizer to help. You can then use the CLUTTERCARDS to keep things in order.
*Once you know what you are going to keep, find a place for everything. It is useful to store like items together. |
